A group of several small islands called Hell's islands is situated in front of the southwestern coast of the island of Hvar. It is a group of limestone islands with rocky and barren shores. The main parts of the islands are covered in macchia and low forests. The currents flowing around the islands are strong, and the passages between them shallow which makes it impossible for larger ships to appriach the islands. Well-protected anchorages for yachts are in the port of Palmižani, which includes an ACI Marina with 190 berths and additional contents, as well as in the port in Soline and Ždrilica Cove. The largest island in the group is St.Clement (94 meters). The islands of Dobri and Stanbedar are south of that island, while Borovac (46 m), Marinkovac (47 m), Planikovac (27 m) and Jerolim (22 m) are in the east. Vodnjan veli (44 m) is in the outmost west. A lighthouse is placed on the island of Pokonji dol, at the entrance to Hell's Channel. Beautiful coves with sandy and pebble beaches along with the crystal-clear sea attract numerous tourists and excursionists, and especially boatmen. The small islands enable diving, underwater fishing, swimming and water sports. Rides on taxi boats between Hell's islands and the island of Hvar, produce a special charm and atmosphere.
